  2. Indie Dance Electronica Room - FAQ

Welcome to Indie Dance / Electronica, Love #Eve

Wait..1st things 1st…I want to play some music, how do i get on the list?

    • Type *addme

Who’s this #eve?  She sure seems on top of things.

    • Yes, this room is managed by a bot.  Her name is #eve.  She’s popular with a facebook fan page and her own playlist.
    • #eve is coded by @gilbarbara http://gilbarbara.tumblr.com/   http://rraurl.com/gilbarbara
    • It’s a mix of javascript/jquery on top of TT’s own script.
    • He won’t tell you how it’s done
    • No, you can’t have one for you own room, but more and more bots are showing up in other rooms
    • Yes, he’s let TT know about.  They’ve been in the room hanging out with #eve.
    •  Gil has some other very useful TT stuffs, check out Turntable Playlists (link) and TTRoomie

     What can #eve do?

#eve has several commands  (they all start with an asterisk

    • *addme  ->  adds you to the DJ queue
    • *list ->  tells your position in the queue.  (see next question)
    • *removeme -> takes your name off the list…very polite thing to do if you’re going AFK
    • *bonus ->  tells #eve you like the song, and if others agree, #eve will give you an awesome :)
    • *theme ->  says what the theme is currently
    • *suggest -> suggest {new theme}  Others will need to agree for the theme to change
    • *offtheme  ->  tell #eve this song is not in the spirit of the room.  Others need to agree and #eve will skip the song
    • *similar  ->   #eve will throw out a song to give you an idea
    • *lastfm  ->  Link to #eve’s last.fm profile
    • *site -> A place to get goodies
    • *page ->  Link to eve’s facebook profile
    • *roomie ->  A link to the roomie addon
    • *help  -> she’s helpful

Hey, how do I tell when I’m up or who’s next or what number I am or how many there are in the queue?

    • You should also get yourself a neat little popup coded by Gil to display the current queue.  Get it here —> http://gilbarbara.com/ide/  Drag it to your bookmarks bar and click it while in the room
    • Another nice little roomie extra you can find is here http://gilbarbara.com/turntable/

#eve has several other super secret commands.  Some are just for Gil and other mods, some you’ll just have to hang out in the room a while to see them.  #eve likes to party

What about the music in here?

The room is titled Indie Dance / Electronica for a reason.  http://www.ttdashboard.com/room/indie_dance_electronica/

Indie is not mainstream.  I know you love Katy Perry, and Tiesto just did a bitchin remix of one of her songs.   Katy Perry is mainstream, Tiesto is mainstream.  Even though you may not hear their mix on Hot 97.5 or whatever, it still doesn’t work in this room.

Electronica is not electronic dance music (EDM, techno nor rave) - but sometimes you’ll hear a little of it in this room.

The room is generally not dubstep.  Might be a little light wub in here…but not too often, play with caution.

The room is not chill.   There are plenty of very nice ambient/chill rooms, just not this one.  Although we love it when .mnml_pixels comes in and hangs out for a change of pace from act :)

Check the night’s theme with *theme.  Usually it’s some fun party, almost always with a Dance / Electronica undertone.  Once in a while the theme will be very specific and there is a reason.  Just ask.

We all appreciate new music.   You’re not going to get a lot of love replaying a tired overplayed (even if its a popular) tune.  New remixes are always welcome though.

Again, generally - we’re about upbeat songs, remixes and the like.

Let’s not get into an indie debate, but just hang out of a while and you’ll get a feel for the room.

These playlists, put together by room regular De Ben, makes #eve all hot and bothered, in a good way

    #Eve’s Eargasm 1

    #Eve’s Eargasm 2

    #Eve’s Eargasm 3

    #Eve’s Eargasm 4

    #Eve’s Resident Eargasm 2.1

This one’s not done by Ben, but complied by Mike and it’s necessarily #eve’s personal favorites, but one’s she’s *bonus’d the most Turntable.fm Indie Dance / Electronica’s greatest hits

     In General

    • Keep it upbeat
    • Keep the heads bobbin’

Anything I need to know about room etiquette and voting?

You get 1 or 2 plays, make them count.

Once #eve tells you its your turn, you get 30 seconds to hop up before you are skipped.

DO NOT JUMP ON THE DECKS unless it’s your turn  (you probably already did this once).  Do it twice and #eve will show you where the lobby is.

We all love awesomes.  Lame if you must - but hey, we’re all here to enjoy music.  Respect plays and your fellow DJs.

Lame the trolls and the really and truly offtheme songs.

Seriously though, would you wait in a 2 hour queue just to test if Sweet Emotion works in this room?  really?  you would?

As everywhere, do not AFK DJ.   #eve will find out and kick you off the deck.

Again, we’re all here to play some music and share with others.

    • If you like a song, say so in chat.
    • If you add a song to your own playlist, let the DJ know.   They love to hear it.

At the end of your play, eve tells you

    1. how many songs you’ve played in here,
    2. how many awesomes and lames total the songs you’ve played received
    3. your ratio; which is your awesomes/lames for OTHER people’s songs

Why did #eve boot me off the deck?

    Most likely

    1. It wasn’t your turn
    2. You hit your song limit
    3. You’re being an ass and a moderator took action
    4. You were afk for too long and eve didn’t like it
    5. Sometimes #eve wants to hang out with close friends…and those who are not yet friends should just hang out and play good music when they get the chance…and eve might friend them at some point :)

Sometimes #eve does get a little cranky and she will incorrectly boot someone.  If you really think you got booted in error or your machine rebooted while you were on deck etc…  If you ask nicely and politely in chat - you may get some help.  Be a jerk about it and you know where the lobby is.  Usually the best action is to hit *addme and get back in queue.

    How about song length?

Please keep it under 7 minutes

    6 is better

5 or below is below is great - helps the room flow, and DJ’s are able to move through the queue, but use your own judgement.

If your song goes sub 50% and TT has not auto skipped, it’s polite to realize the room isn’t just into it and skip your play.

If your song has a 90 second outro of the same thing repeating, do us a favor, skip.  People notice and appreciate it.   If you do skip, its super kind to let the next DJ know you’re about to skip to be sure their queue is ready.

How else can I listen to IDE?

Listen to the Shoutcast stream :http://radio.ofdoom.com:8020/listen.pls

Or through your mobile divice using YourMuze  :http://www.yourmuze.fm/station/indie-dance-electronica

    Are there any house DJs?

There are a fair amount of regular DJs(called residents) in here.  Some of them even get special privileges from #eve.

Sometimes there are resident only nights…hang out long enough, play good tunes and don’t spam “make me a resident” and who knows…

MASTER SHAKE on the DAIS !!!

When in doubt, play what you want…dance the way you feel
